If you don't fit balance shafts, it won't be as smooth as it could be, but some people don't seem to mind.
Having had a 16v with the shafts on, it was smoother than a V6 Audi I had previously. Great engine the B234F is/was, just don't let the metal corrode, use good antifreeze.
Oh, the manifolds are different, at least I know the inlet one is.
