3A connector block "chop block"
Small Stanley screwdriver
Pliers/snips
Scosche USB adapter (overkill for dash cam, but it's the best for stable power throughput, any will do it)
Long USB cable or extension to run up the A pillar, 5m is plenty, 3m may be enough?
Some spare 1A car cable and optional 1A inline fuse, crimp tool and crimp connectors if you're doing a pro job
Remove the gear stick assembly and surround, cut the cables to the existing 12V socket, attach the cable with the new socket in parallel via the chop block. Hide the new socket under the gear stick assembly and run the USB cable up the pillar.
Whole process takes about ten minutes

Isn't the fag lighter a permanent live? I've always taken a feed from the switched supply to the stereo, using a USB buck converter.
