Actually I'm wrong, I went back and checked and yes the load compensating suspension was an option on the saloons too. It was only ever fitted as standard to some of the estates.
Apparently you can tell if the shocks on the back are Nivomats because they have a rubber gaiter around their base where they link to the suspension but I've never actually seen this so I can't tell for sure.
I'd be surprised if someone shelled out for them on a saloon mind you unless they had towing specifically in mind.
