Thanks for that. I checked and there is a big hole in the lower hose from the intercooler. Contacted the nearest Volvo dealer and ordered the part to be collected tomorrow. I never even thought about enquiring how much they would charge to fit it, as it is out of warranty. The guy in the parts dept told me that this is a common problem and it looks like the upper hose has already been replaced. I might chance my arm and see how much they will charge to fit it tomorrow, but I wont be holding my breath as they quoted me £340 for the 36k mile service.
