Pressure sprayers can damage the material with too much pressure

Spray it with a soapy water from a hand sprayer and then work it in the detergent gently with a gentle brush

Another spray with a hand sprayer and clean water, and then mop up the surface with a sponge, rinsing frequently in clean water

At all times keep the engine covered (with eg an old bedsheet) to prevent dirty water from getting into the engine bay

You'll be surprised at how much grime comes off.
