My V70 weatherstrip as in the pic, is broken and peeling off at the ends, I have ordered one but after researching how to replace it seems some say it's only really doable with the window removed. Has anyone got any experience trying?

I will have a look at the scrapyard for a car to try it on but the chance of an 850/V70 being there are slim. A few said the pressure of sliding it in from one end means after about halfway it's likely to snap the metal and break. Another said he has replaced 2 but gave no useful info/tips. My other thought is of buying some U shaped rubber off ebay or the like and putting that in it's place but the strip is £26 and I don't want to pay just to not be able to fit it.
