When i get back from my weekend away I'll have to try and get the cover off while still being able to run the car to pinpoint it exactly, but if the pump needs removing its going to be belts off job which i'm not sure i'm going to be able to tackle myself.

It is looking that way so far , you can take the cover off fairly easily and run it . Has it ever had a non volvo water pump as far as you know ?
