Glad you found it.
If it is clicking it is probably working, as the sprung contact is snapping over as it should do, hence the click. Likely that oil or WD40 is between the contacts preventing electric flowing.
If you can bypass it to give you piece of mind and then work on cleaning it with contact cleaner you may have success. (It could of course be broken but it doesn’t sound that way, unless a wire is detached from it).
As I said it took a few soaks with contact cleaner, weeks to dry out and a bit of jiggling but once sorted has been fine.
