Don't want you guys to think that I'm profligate about replacing exhausts. It's just that the corrosion on the picture looked quite bad and if it's like that on the outside, it may be worse on the inside. OP can see the whole system, and make his judgement but my experience is that a well made bespoke stainless system can actually cost less than the OEM mild steel unit and once fitted will last longer than the rest of the car!

My experience over the last 15 years was that I had a couple of the same model car and just swapped over the system when I wrote off one of them so my exhaust cost me £350 for 15 years and was still like new when I sold the last car. Perhaps that tends to condition my thinking and welding the old system back until the car is sold is more economical but I tend to look at my cars as very long term which is why when I changed marques, I bought a Volvo!
