I have VCDS for the VW and when it works it is very good but i have nothing but issues with the lap top getting it to work each time and its a bit hit and miss.
So my fear is that buying VIDA 2014 could potentially give me the same issues?
Also its not clear if this will work on my late 2014 xc60D5?

Another option seams to be the icarsoft diagnostic tool V2.0 euro which allows 10 vehicle types to be registered and its £158 from a genuine UK dealer.
Would this enable me to do most service and diagnostic tasks and set / adjust the automatic gearbox level more accurately than the plug method?
It has the benefit of also doing the VW more reliably?

To be honest i think half my issues are a pretty poor laptop with the VW VCDS software and when i factor replacing that the icarsoft becomes good value?
If its just a pretty generic code reader would a cheep unit be just as good?
Any first hand experience of its capabilities?

Any thoughts pro's/cons of each? What would be the biggest advantage of VIDA for example? Could i code new parts or would that be a dealer visit anyway?

Having just had some issues which i fortunately resolved as it was a wiring issue i would prefer to get something in place before its potentially needed.

Thanks in advance.
The icarsoft is pretty comprehensive for volvo , they you could add VW too of course . There is now a new V3 software for the volvo side of it .
