Default 2006 D5 died without notice, showing low fuel pressure?

Hi All
After some help with a 2006 v70 d5 185 if anyone can assist. Had a good few volvos over the last few years without issues and recently got an older v70 for a work horse.

The car was starting and running perfectly but last week took dogs out and upon returning to the car it wouldn't start, cranked over until battery gave up and had to get towed home.

The car has plenty of fuel in the tank and I've replaced the filter, I've disconnected the fuel feed line under the bonnet and there's a short bust when the key is turned so assuming the fuel supply is ok upto that point. I've connected a scanner to the car and it's maximum pressure is showing 970psi and upon cracking that slowly drops before peaking again around 700psi? I believe this should be around 5000psi min to start, very strange to have had no prior warning of an issue.

Any help much appreciated
