Bit of an update on this issue,
Car had developed a bit of a judder on cold start, only when bone cold in the morning and went away with a mile or 2 of driving.
Still had MAF codes popping up from time to time.
Took the swirl flap arm off and tried to move it through it full range of movement, turns out they're so crudded up they go from full open (all the way in) to about 80-90% closed
Re-connected the arm in the full open position and u plugged the actuator, car drives perfect and MAF codes + engine system service required message is also gone (finally)
So it looks like I got a bit of a double whammy, faulty MAF sensor and failing swirl flaps.
After I get a 2nd car on the road I'll get stuck into the swirl flap replacement, don't fancy doing it as the v70 is currently my only car on the road and even though it looks like an evening of work, I'll be able to drag that out a solid week.
