Default V70 AWD 2.4T Diesel - auto gearbox problem

Volvo V70 AWD automatic – with all the Volvo trimmings - £ 500
Missing one vital ingredient - TRACTION

This car has been the family pride and joy and totally reliable for the last 7 years, duly serviced and maintained by a Volvo enthusiast being the 10th Volvo in the line owned over the years - MOT'd and fully functional before it lost drive.

Previously registered to a Chief Constable and by the number of toys fitted we can only deduce it was his personal car:

Extensive maintenance work/servicing carried out by the Police

Metal finish paint – Dawn Blue 459
Two keys - the second purchased at a cost of £ 255.82
Full black leather upholstery – Front seats electrically heated and drivers motorised with memory.
Rear seats include built-in Volvo booster-cushion child seats
SRS, SIPS air bags and IC (inflatable curtains) with WHIPS wipelash protection.
Brake system with EBD, EBA, TC, SC & AYC.
Volvo 7 seat conversion
Adjustable steering wheel
Volvo detachable towing hitch & electrics.
Electronic Climate control.
Cruise control.
Sun roof, glass tilt & slide with sun shade.
Volvo pop-up GPS and supporting discs.
Multifunction control wood steering wheel.
Aluminium dash trim. Five cup holders.
High grade audio system with 6 CD auto changer
Automatic windscreen wipers option fitted
Headlamp washers. Fog lights
Dimming rear view mirror.
Rear luggage cover
Plush carpets

‘Specialist Vehicle Preparations’ made many changes for the Police to improve the car and I have sneaky feeling they played with the suspension because it sticks to the road far better than similar models I have driven.

This car was maintained regardless of cost and totally reliable taking me all over the country on my many travels and regular journeys to Silverstone where I volunteer as a Racemaker.

It had the crankshaft oil seal changed, 7 months before being taken off the road, and the front lower suspension arms replaced. New disks & pads fitted, upgraded alternator, new starter, battery. It has LED headlamp bulbs fitted. New rear light clusters since the police failed to plug the holes when they removed the discreet blue lights.

The engine has been started regularly and runs and sounds well (no smoke), it always had plenty of torque. Wheels are fitted with Dunlop/Michelin tyres on Volvo Orestes aluminium rims 7.5J x 17.

On the way home from the gym one morning – it just lost all traction – no warning – no warning lights on the dash – no noises from the gearbox – I needed a car and did not have time to diagnose what had gone wrong.

Since buying another V70 AWD, life is so hectic that I have not found time even look at the first V70.
