I would have thought that the 850 and V70 you had would have ridden a lot softer, unless they were the sporty models. The V40 is a sporty hatch.

Realistically you can look at wheel size and tyres. If it's on 18 inch wheels maybe you could move to 16 inch. If it's on sporty but stiff sidewall tyres, perhaps you could look at softer compound tyres?

My V60 was a bit too crashy for me, so I changed the size and read lots of the online reviews. I actually ended up with much cheaper tyres than I normally buy, but they are quieter and more comfortable. (Brand is Debica Presto UHP made in Germany by Goodyear). Playing around with the tyre pressures can help as well.
