Hi,
I ran 205/55R16 on both my V70s, 97AWD+98. They were actually OEM fit on the AWD. Both ran without any issues at all. It gave a wider choice of tyres on more modern rubber as well.
Personal choice aside, my only recommendation would be to avoid XL tyres.
