They're right, there's no filter that you can easily change. However, that doesn't mean they just leave the fluid. You can replace the fluid by a drain and fill or "sump dump".
You need to do multiple drain and fills to get it clean. So drain it, fill it, drain it and fill it until the fluid is clear. You might have to do that several times if your car has never had it done, but it'll be worth it.
The
vitally important thing is they use the correct fluid for your car. Putting the wrong trans fluid in can destroy the transmission.
