I picked up my new XC90 top of the range model on Monday. Today my wife and I were stranded in a supermarket car park as the car would not start. Infuriated (as you can imagine!) I called Volvo Assist. A chap arrived about half an hour later and it started first time for him
He said he 'gets this a lot', i.e. that cars with electronic keys won't start if the key is in your pocket!!! My previous car was a Landrover Discovery which I had from new since 2016, and I always had the key in my right hand pocket.
Is it a 'feature' that the key to start the car needs to be in the front console? The online manual says it just needs to be in 'the front of the passenger cabin'. Or could it be that thre is something mechanically/electronically/digitally wrong do you think? I've sent a stringent email to the dealer in the meantime and will also be on the phone to them first thing Monday.
