Air can get in, but you have to bleed it it out. If you aren't confident doing it, let a garage replace it for you. Dirty fuel filters can cause all sorts of problems.

Yes, going off Clan's expert and repeated advice, there is an improved fuel filter from Volvo for this engine plus it's recommended to have the latest software downloads for improved overall running.
