I would also be quite interested as my driver's door is failing...
I've never in my life had a car where the door locking mechanism has failed in this, or in a similar way (except where the lock barrel froze and cracked on an old Audi A4 years ago).
This Volvo door lock issue seems to be quite a "feature"! Lol!
