As to the noise, I’ve never owned a BMW but yes the 5 cylinders can sound a little agricultural at times. I wouldn’t be worrying yourself unnecessarily they are good strong engines. Try and get your faults sorted out and enjoy it.
I would strongly recommend finding a Volvo specialist to look after it. Normal garages just don’t know how to deal with these cars or that’s generally the rule and certainly my experience.

It has reset to the correct level during an 90 mile round trip. It’s pretty much where it should be 3/4th of the range between min/max.
