That was my thought, and that is why I ran a jump lead from the solenoid to the negative post on the battery. I haven't tried connecting the starter to the battery though. That's an easy job, so maybe I should try that. Now I'll have to wait for it to fail again.
Boosting the battery seems to fix the problem for anything between one hour and five days.
