Can I also suggest that when doing this job you should check the tensioner pulley is running smoothly. These are fairly cheap to replace and may save you being stranded if it seizes and causes the belt to fail.
The first time I did this I was a bit wary as, with the engine at TDC, the lines on the belt do not actually touch the point on the crank pulley with the dot but you can see that they will if pushed around a bit more. Also when you have rotated the engine in order to check it is OK before starting, the lines on the belt will not line up again with the dots on the pulleys but that does not matter as long as all the dots line up with their alignment marks on the cover.
