Yes, remember a similar situation, with a Rover 90, when the throttle cable broke, travelling North, on a Sunday, along the banks of Loch Lomand.
Off duty AA Patrolman, on MC, supplied/fitted string and this got me home to Thurso.
Those, were the days, when one could do something, without the need of software updates.
