The first thing I learnt with the suspension top nut is there a bastard to undo, but a good pair of mole grips can help you out and the second thing is to truly make sure that you have compressed the springs far enough before removal of the nut.

The first time I ever played with spring compressors I had the strut assembly clamped horizontly in the vice and had attached my compressors and compressed the spring.

I was undoing the top nut and happened to be standing in such a way as the top of the stut and the nut was perfectly in line with my family jewels.

Fortuntaley i decided this was an unwise place to stand, so as I continued to undo the nut with a spanner with much trepidation and as i got to the end of the thread, PING went the nut as I hadnt compressed the spring enough and the top nut flew off and embedded itself in the internal door from the garage to the house.
