Just one word of advice to you pete - when you come to fir the boot lid try just fitting it onto your hinges without removing the hinges from the car
If you remove the hinges the gas strut things (behind the hinges as you look into the boot) will extend and be a very big pain in the backside to compress to refit without the special volvo tool as they are very high pressure - just think of the weight they are holding up!
Also, I'd try and locate the key if I was you - it'll be difficult to fit your barrell in as your original curved boot lid will have the big rectangular push button release whereas the 1980 flat boot lid will just have a round lock barrell that requires you to put the key in and turn it to release the boot lid.
Not trying to sound like a smartar5e here, just trying to help avoid possible problems
