Maybe check the OBD port and plug check that it is fitting ok and there are not pins bent missing?
I had to upload a software patch so vida would run properly - and since then I have had no problems reading both my old XC90 T6 & V70 and another forum members 2011 XC90 D5.
I noted that my old petrol cars need to be running to communicate, otherwise you get a battery warning but the 2011 D5 was happy with the key in position II not running.
Sometimes it can be slow to communicate - what I tend to do is turn the computer on well before getting near the car and to make sure it's gone thru all is checks and set ups, because if you try to run vida too early you get into an endless loop of 'no network' connection web pages.
Not sure if this helps?
