Hi Richard,

When the car is running, particularly if it is making a noise or not operating smoothly, open the cap and check the power steering fluid for small air bubbles or foaming.

If the fluid level is low or if there is an air leak (poor hose connections on the return hose can allow air to be drawn into the intake side of the power steering reservoir), that can cause foaming problems.

But also check to see that the fluid that is coming into the reservoir comes in through a small tube (plastic?). Sometimes that tube can drop off (into the reservoir) and then air gets mixed into the circulating fluid and froths up. There is a mesh at the bottom of the reservoir that stops the tube getting drawn down into the pump so don't disturb the mesh. Maybe fish around in the reservoir and see if you can find the loose bit of tube.

I think the early reservoirs had this problem (tube falling off) and a revised reservoir used a better fixing which avoids this problem.

I cant find any pictures, but hope you see what I mean.
