It turned out to be a 27mm nut. My haynes book said to tighten to 12 ftlbs whilst turning the hub. Then tighten to 20ftlbs and then back off 1/4 turn which is what i did.

Went for a drive it seemed ok. I need to tear it down again tomorrow anyway as i couldn't find my bloody box of split pins and i need to replace the one i reused.
