Nothing to do with performance exhausts people, it's to do with life and motoring experience and knowledge.
I also happen to know of many cars where performance suffers horrendously when part of the exhaust is missing, whether a hole or a complete silencer.

Back pressure is bad
The exhaust needs to use the pulses from teh cylinders to create suction, this pulls out the gases from the next cylinder. If the exhaust snaps off near the front you loose that suction and see a huge drop in power
