i had a headunit fail in a 6 year old XC90, which had been out the dealer network for 3 years. Dealership just quoted the price to replace c.£1000 and "no guarantees it would fix my problem"..
i complained to Volvo UK and within a couple of hours had a reply and an offer of £400 of vouchers towards the work.
social media also works well. get on their twitter and facebook sites highlighting your problem.
