I dont know the newer models are like but good handbrakes that require little maintenance are calipers with built in handbrake mechanism.
With these you get 100% pads to disc contact. Therefore the handbrake doesnt need yanking up to the ceiling.
With out and with some wear Id reckon its a 5th of that. If that.
