Thanks folks. Unless I can get access to a lift locally any work to treat the rust will have to be delegated to someone who has. My local independent is helpful but not sure if they'd be up for doing it. Getting the subframe galvanised would best of course, but I'm not sure I could justify the cost. Much as we love the car I've a feeling things are going to have to change in a couple of years maximum.
