2 yrs with a 1.6d Volvo V60 - Avg 46mpg approx
3yrs with a 2.0d Volvo XC60 - Avg 44-46mpg
18mnth with a 2.0d Skoda Superb - Avg 52mpg
The right engine with the right car will give you better mpg than a little engine with a heavy car.
I've had 1.6d V40 as courtesy cars before and I thought it actually felt okay with that combination. The 2.0d will clearly make the ride easier and calmer. The trick will be not to thrash it. If you don't then I would probably believe the dealer on this one as there is a bit of weight to a V40.
