Default xc90 completely dead

Hi all,

I had a weird one today, i went to start my xc90 after it had been parked for about an hour and it was completely dead. The engine wasn't even trying to turn over, it was if the battery was completely drained.

The only thing I notice was that one of the registration plate lights was not working. I was visiting family so i managed to put jump leads on to the battery, it then started no problem. I disconnect the jump leads and then switched off my car, switched it back on and it started straight away. The reg plate light also started to work. I drove off and had a message saying that the dipped beam bulb was blown, I checked these and they were fine. The car has restarted fine for the rest of the day.

A couple of questions/points
1. I can't believe the reg plate light could cause this?
2. why message about the dipped beam bulb blown?
3. has anyone else had this trouble?

I do not believe the battery was flat and it was purely coincidently that it started with the jump leads, as there is no way the battery could have charged in such a short time.

any suggestion gratefully received.
