My opinion is thus:

A foldable barrier relies on the strength of the seat backs for support. In the XC70 the seat backs directly connect to the body at the top of the rear wheel arch. Therefore the seats are strong enough.

In the XC90 the seat backs are self supporting, so therefore cannot accept the additional loading of the foldable grille.

Not sure about the XC60 and how the rear seat backs are supported.
