The service schedule for my V50 from the main dealer shows a change of gearbox oil and filter at 50,000 and 100,000 miles.
My experience shows that the more these cars are driven with a fault, the bigger the likely bill. It seems that failure of a plastic part between the clutches is the most likely suspect. If that alone is the problem, they can be fixed by SigTrans for as little as £700. Once gear damage occurs, the bill skyrockets.
I spent ages looking for gearbox specialists who could fix these boxes, but it wasn't until I spoke to the independent dealer from which I bought the car that I found one. I do hope iadom can find someone in the North.
I doubt that Ford are better equipped than Volvo to sort these boxes, but would be very pleased to be proved wrong.
