This is where a lot of people get their heads wrapped up n tied in knots! 'Oh, 0w40 is waaaaaay too thin to replace 15w40, it'll reet F##k your engine' that kinda thing. Nope! The hot 40 viscosity is waaaay thinner than cold 0w. When the engine is up to full temp, the latter number is the key player, so, all are largely thr same when hot. But when cold, the 0w is much closer to hot 40 than 15w is, and will get where it is needed much, much faster.
