thanks for your reply, I've followed the thread through to hopefully enable to send a PM.

Regarding the code reading, I've not had this done this time. When I had the codes checked in 2018 it cost me £60 and the problem was then fixed by fitting a replacement control unit which cost me £45. In April 2019 the dashboard warning light came on again, I purchased another second hand control unit for £25, fitted it and the light went off, albeit only to come back on again a few weeks after the car had passed its MOT in May.

I might be wrong, but I am thinking that reconnecting or replacing the control unit will get rid of the dashboard warning light hence resolving the problem.
