Thought I should report back for anyone who may be looking at this thread in the future. Even though my superstitious brain tells me not to!
Anyway, since removing the coins etc., I haven't yet had a repeat false alarm. I have only left the car locked over night for the last week, and although was testing during the day before that, it perhaps isn't a long enough test.
But so far so good - if it continues to behave, a very easy fix!
