Great thread Andy and I'm just keeping it alive !

I did think that the reason for Volvo specifying A5/B5 for the euro 4 D5 was to support extending the oil change interval from 9k to 18k miles.

You've also sort-of answered another question for me, why the euro 4 was not spec'd for a C spec like nearly every other diesel with a DPF !

My 2006 V70 euro 4 has got a bit of top end clatter recently (filled with 5w30 A5B5) and thinking maybe the oil has deteriorated, though it's only 3000 miles old. I'm going to try some valve lifter treatment first (Wynns).
