I can remember reading that the poster had used a sock, which he dragged through the gap between the handle and the spacer. Bonus, the sock retained the clip. Not tried it. I've never had problems with removal on an Amazon other than the odd clip pinging out, not lost any though. There is an "official" tool for this but pretty easy to duplicate from a bit of thin aluminium. The crotchet hook mentioned does of course work but you can only use it to pull after you've pushed the legs in a bit. Remember, if you haven't done it before, that when refitting you can just fit the clip and give the handle a whack with your hand after putting it on the shaft.
Tip of the week: If you tie a loop of strong cotton/carpet thread to the clip you will always be able to just pull it out. The loop hides behind the handle.
