It's not really a fair comparison. A 2+ tonne brand new SUV vs an older model Renault saloon. Car safety improves with every new model so the Renault is at several disadvantages. I doubt many similar cars would fair any better against the XC90 or similar types.
Renault actually perform very well on the Euro NCAP tests but the offside crash test is performed against a simulation of a similarly sized car so you can never get a test comparison of small car vs large car

That is because they were built to pass them after their horrendous cars before , and NCAP features became law . They don't go the extra mile though . It wasn't just Renault , all french cars were like matchboxes regarding safety . these days most cars have met in the middle all acceptable but some a bit less unsafe than others ...
