Damage caused to chips can happen but they are designed to take the heat especially chips designed for automotive use. I re-soildered the whole board got it nice and hot to make sure they don't crack again and stuck it back in the car, no probs now for 9 months. Also a dry joint is not really about the colour, it's the fact that the joint has cracked. Clean it up with IPA and get a magnifing glass and have a look for a tiny crack normally round the whole circum' of the joint. Or just retouch all the joints, within reason, it'll be the connector ones that will have gone or the soleniod ones because of the vibration under use.
