The hardwire unit that is fitted to the cam has four voltage options.
You can choose from 11.8 volts to 12.4 volt as to when it switches off the camera.
I have mine set at 12 volts, so when dash cam uses battery power to that level it switches off to save enough power to start the car.
It has its downside though, if you don't drive the car for a few days you have no parking monitoring system so defeats the object.
I was toying with the idea of the battery pack, but $400 is too much money.
So I am going to try the power banks that you can charge tablets etc with.
Was thinking of charging that from the power socket whilst driving then changing the power cable over to use the parking function, much cheaper option.
