I think you are right in questioning the sales person’s advice that all is well.
If it were mine, I would be arranging for a trusted local garage to road test the car for you, and then throughly inspect the steering and suspension if they too feel the car is not steering as it should.
Well worth ensuring the tyre pressures are checked against the handbook specified pressures before hand. Do a visual check of the tyres at the same time, to see if there is any obvious uneven wear across the tread width on any of the tyres.
