As stated earlier, my understanding is that the later 163 Euro 4 engine does have a DPF and swirl flaps to lower emissions.
It was never fitted to the xc90.
When fitted to say an S60 the E4 163 will have 2.4D written on the boot lid whereas as the E4 185 will have D5 written on the bootlid.
For an XC90 you have a simple choice of early E3 163 bhp engine ( no DPF or swirl flaps ) OR a E4 185 bhp engine with DPF and swirl flaps.
