Always, in every car I've owned since the Mobil One became widely available in the UK. I even use synthetic oil in the motor mower!
I'm currently using Quantum Platinum Engine Oil 5w40 bought from a local VW indy - which worked out at around £58 for 20L (neighbour and I bought 2 x 20L tubs to get the price down).
Average price for it at the moment is around £20 for 5L - worth shopping around as it does actually noticeably improve petrol consumption, keeps the engine clean on the inside as it is a low ash type and barely darkened after 5K in the V70.
Spec'd as ACEA C3 with long drain intervals
