Hopefully it should last a bit longer. I can think of pleasanter ways of spending time than lying on my back in the driveway covered in rust but at least it's done.

Any sane person would probably have scrapped it a couple of years ago when the cambelt failed. but I'd always had a soft spot for it and it's probably my favourite of the Volvos I've owned over the last 35 years. So I'm intending to tidy it up a bit and sort out a few other non-urgent bits and pieces. Ph1 V70s are now getting to be quite rare around here and it usually seems to generate some interest whenever I take the car out. I've certainly no intention of parting with it.

It's been interesting to contrast it with what I remember of my first Volvo, a 17 year old 122S from 1967, which was in a far worse state rustwise although probably better than most other 17 year old cars of that era. By comparison, the V70 looks practically new after 21 years!
