Default Dead Engine

Hi all,

I'm back with another problem (when will it end?!?!)

Driving the car down the road when I hear a flapping noise coming from the wheels. Thought it was just a piece of paper stuck to a wheel because it was intermitent and as the wheel was rotating it was coming up and touching the arch.

Then the noise stopped after about 800 yards, and so did the engine. It just faded away and won't start again! Local specialist won't be open until Monday, so I may as well do something productive and try to get an idea of whats wrong.

I don't think it's the starter motor because the car was already running, the battery is full and has no problems, there is definately fuel in the tank. I was thinking there may be kink in the fuel line but first, I can't find one and second, when I try to turn the engine over it doesn't even crank which makes me think it's something else.

It makes a noise when I try to turn it but it is obviously not going to do anything. The cam/fan (?) belt is still there and going round, I've taken the ECU of and made sure there is no dust, I've checked oil and water and now I'm desperate!

Call me a genius if you must, but I think there is a connection between the noise I first heard and my dead engine!! Thanks for any help guys.
