Yes. They are better built and more reliable than many much newer cars. These Volvos ooze quality compared to many modern offerings. They are simpler too and long lasting with the right care and a reasonable yearly investment and shouldn't be that expensive to run as long as you have a good one to start with.
Also, no matter how controversial and a bit of an "acquired taste" you are skyship: a lot of us don't want to lose you here.
I do intend to run my daily driver 2000 S40 1.8 (non GDI) Auto with 111k forever.
I am in fact starting to buy parts to create a little stash of items for when they run dry.
